A true Ballard hero
We here at inballard.com are truly saddened at the passing of Edith Macefield, a true Ballard hero. She refused to sell her home and bow to the developers who are erasing Ballard's history. Edith, you were a true inspiration and we know that your spirit will live on for all of us who call Ballard home. It is our hope that your tiny house will remain intact, in spite of the 30 foot walls that surround it, and that it will become a symbol as to what real people can do. Ballard was first settled in 1853. In 1889 it was incorporated in Washington State and in 1907, Ballard was annexed to Seattle. Proud of its Scandinavian heritage, Ballard has many reminders of its past including the annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade on May 17, the Nordic Heritage Museum, and the Bergen Place mural that was dedicated by the King & Queen of Norway in 1996.

Every year we close down the streets and roll out the fun. With entertainment for all ages, beer and wine gardens, a plethora of seafood vendors, arts and crafts and our unique contests, it?s a great, old fashioned summer party. This is your chance to get some of the best salmon in town! Our cooking crew has it down to a science and you?ll marvel at how they cook right in the middle of the street. Fresh, juicy and good for you!

Inballard.com was created in 1998 as a way to showcase the best places to drink, eat, shop, live and go in Ballard. Places on the site have been spotted by the local Ballard staff and/or submitted by viewers and reviewed by our selection committee. If considered a place that the committee would recommend to their friends and family, it is placed onto the site in the appropriate category. New places are added as often as possible but, since we are volunteer based, the speed of updates can vary.
The site is designed, developed & maintained through a generous donation by Design Hovie Studios and a wonderful group of volunteers.
